| Posted: 05 Feb 2016 04:22 PM PST Basically we are even related to bacteria. Alright, I know, nobody really loves them because some of them make us sick, but so do some human relatives of ours. -- I mean, how far do you want to go with relatives? I feel related to almost all mammals, because we share a good part of behavior. I feel less related to a snail, a snake, or a fish. And I don't feel related at all to a spider or a mosquito. And yet I know that it's wrong and that we're all from the same origin, and just went different ways. Lucius T Fowler · 1 hour ago

| Question: Is it possible to change my last name? Posted: 05 Feb 2016 02:26 PM PST Yes, you can legally change your name. Another alternative is to get married (if you aren't already) and change your surname to your spouse's name. It's not just brides that do that anymore. Some men will do it too. Hypenated names are becoming more common. Other couples opt for a combination name such as John Snow marries Jane Doe and they decide to become John and Jane Snowdoe. There are all sorts of naming traditions in the world, but you don't need to stick with tradition. For instance, Patronymics, usually done in Scandinavian countries, are traced through the paternal line, usually through the suffix of "son," "sen," and "dottir." If Anders had a son, Olaf, the son's name would be Olaf Anderson (or Andersen). If Olaf had a son, Peder, his name would be Peder Olafson (or Olafsen). In the case of girls, it would be if Anders had a daughter Anna, her name would be Anna Andersdottir. If Anna married Lars and they had a daughter, Inga, her name would be Inga Larsdottir. Asian countries will usually have the family name before the given name. |
| Question: Can I say I have or have some Catalan or Italian background? Posted: 05 Feb 2016 01:20 PM PST I am a quarter Puerto Rican coming from my father's side, and I was wondering if I can say I have or have some Catalan and Italian descent since my last name comes from Catalonia and Italy? My Puerto Rican family mainly all look white and only a few didn't...specially my great grandfather he looked German or Russian, and my grandmother always believe they were mixed (and I know you can't judge ethnicity on looks) but I just wanted to know if I can since my name comes from there? YOU can say any thing you want to, however, if you are German or of Russian ancestry that is also WHITE. Puerto Rico is a racially mixed culture, meaning European, African and Asian. |
