Question: Jewish last name?

Not necessarily.

This is what the Dictionary of American Family names has

Mercado Name Meaning

Spanish: from mercado 'market', topographic name for someone living by a market or metonymic occupational name for a market trader.

Any name can be Jewish. When surnames were taken in Europe during the last millennium it wasn't necessarily to identify someone as a member of a family but just to better identify him on records. Also understand that the Talmud defines a Jew by the mother, not the father.

Orthodox and Conservative Judaism believes as long as you have a Jewish mother you are a Jew whether you were raised Jewsih or if you or not practice the Jewish faith. Reform Jews view it differently.
