| Question: What is the difference between a personal agent and a casting agent? What do they both do? Posted: 08 Oct 2016 09:27 PM PDT There's no such thing as either, really. There are talent agents (or just 'agents' and their job is to find auditions for their each of their clients, ones which will suit them and ones which they have a chance of winning. There's no such thing as a casting agent. A casting director is employed by the production company to find actors, through good agencies, to fill the roles. By the time you've had all that training, you'll have learned all about agents, etc. That's taught as part of all good acting courses. |

| Question: How do you play the "yes and" method when improvising? Posted: 08 Oct 2016 07:03 PM PDT It simply means you accept whatever your scene partner(s) say and add to it. You don't try to change it or contradict it because you were thinking something different. So if you enter a scene thinking you're going to be be the rich, handsome playboy but your scene partner turns to you and says "Thank you for coming Father" you accept that you're going to play a priest and add to it like "Of course, but do you really want last rites for a pet turtle?" You do not try and correct him like "Sorry, you're mistaken I'm really Thurstan Howell the Fourth" or something. It involves listening to your scene partners, not trying to force the scene where you want to go, and including details when you speak - answering questions the audience might be thinking in their head, not asking questions in the scene. |
