Question: I want to pursue a real and professional Hollywood acting career?

Posted: 09 Oct 2016 10:01 PM PDT

Barbizon is a scam - one of the best-known in the acting business.
You really have to do your research.
Whatever you do, don't add Barbizon to your resume! Everyone would just laugh.
The same goes for John Robert Powers and Casablancas, if you were considering them!
You need to understand that $1000 isn't going to come even close to getting you decent training.
On average it takes seven years at a really good acting school before you could be considered fully-trained.
You'd also need many years stage experience.

Hundreds of thousands of teens would like to pursue a career in acting in Hollywood.
To compete with them, and get a good agent, your training and experience is going to have to be better than 95% of them. A few classes here and there for a couple of months is useless.
Find a real, accredited acting school where you can progress from basic classes, through intermediate and up to advanced. Also, get loads of experience with a good community theatre.
And then aim for a degree-level course.
That would give you the best chance possible.
Good luck!

Question: Is this true?

A lot of people answer "typically, actors get no more than about ten days' paid acting work a year..." to acting questions on Yahoo Answers. But is that really true? Even for those big Hollywood actors?

I want to be an actor really bad (Hollywood actor to be exact) and want to know if I should also pursue my passion for Film Directing as well along with ACTING (as number one).

Thanks!

Question: Can I be an ACTOR and DIRECTOR?

Posted: 09 Oct 2016 09:49 PM PDT

Yes, but it's even harder to get paid work as a director.
Think about it. One movie, maybe 30 to 50 actors - one director.

And by the way, the average number of days' paid acting work that actors get really is ten days.
And it's also true that most actors have to work a day job alongside acting their whole lives.
If you get more, that's great. But many actors, according to union statistics, got no paid work at all last year. That's right - zero. the unemployment rate for actors is currently 95%.

Question: San Diego to Los Angeles for auditions?

Posted: 09 Oct 2016 07:17 PM PDT

Student films are almost always cast from the university;s drama department or from nearby drama schools and community theatres. And yes, they'd want people who live very close to the uni.
Filming for anything can take weeks, months, and usually just a couple of hours here and there. You can't keep travelling to and from the location.
The same goes for community theatre, which I hope you've already been involved in for some time. If not, that's what you should be doing. Actors start off by auditioning for small roles with their local community theatre and gradually building up to leading roles. And from there, they can get involved in sub-groups which make indies and short films.

As far as professional roles are concerned, even commercials, you'd need to be signed with a good agency. They don't advertise auditions for those in public. And to get signed by any genuine agency you'd need to have had many years of good-quality training and loads of stage experience. You'd also have to live very close to the theatres, and the big TV and movie studios.
