| Posted: 25 Jul 2016 07:20 AM PDT After getting here and claiming land - they didn't do much with it. This is one reason Jefferson was able to buy Louisiana from Napoleon: it was cheaper to sell to the US rather than fighting a war about it - and settlers were (illegally) moving in anyway. |

| Question: Cartographer, idea that the continents were once join? Posted: 25 Jul 2016 06:07 AM PDT Pangea, or any other mass continent, is credible as a theorem. That's not the same as a theory. It means that all the consequences of theories have been supported by the pangea solution. Therefore, the only solution that fits all current observation is pangea. For example: - why do strata of identical rocks exist on coasts separated by hundreds or thousands of miles of ocean? - why are there fossil deposits of life-forms and plants in locations where now they could not possible survive? - how come that big areas of the planet's surface are moving around at a known and finite rate and seem to have been doing so for millions of years? The pangea model fits all these and therefore is accepted generally. |
