Question: Need help figuring out this musical term.? Posted: 24 Jul 2016 07:52 PM PDT I was wondering what the term was for the brief period of time in a song where the instrumental music cuts out for a few seconds, while the artist continues to sing. I am familiar with the concept of A Cappella, but I was wondering if there was a term to describe this specific musical tool. Thank you in advance.

Question: Yamaha vs Jasmine Acoustic Guitars? Posted: 24 Jul 2016 01:44 PM PDT Yamaha has a better rep even on their plywood guitars, but if you have $200+ to spend, you should see a MAJOR improvement by getting one of the solid spruce topped Yamaha 7xxS series, like the FS720S. Solid wood is well known to give better tone than plywood, and it is rare to find it under $300, one reason that Yammie series is recommended by most of the serious guitar geeks here. If the product description doesn't say SOLID spruce, it isn't. "Spruce", "select spruce", etc, are weasel words for spruce plywood.
Question: Acoustic Guitars Under 300 Dollars? Posted: 24 Jul 2016 01:41 PM PDT Look at the highly rated Yamaha FG7xxS or the smaller bodied FS7xxS series. They start at $200, have solid spruce tops for better tone (models ending with S only), are regular acoustics with no cutaway, and are traditionally styled. You can get them at any Guitar Center or Sam Ash. Best to go to the store and pick one out personally since each guitar is a bit different. A solid spruce topped guitar should last you a few years. The Jasmine might be a stopgap if you only had $100 to spend, but even then there are better choices, although they'd still be plywood. $100 is right around the cutoff point between playable guitars and toys. The current crop of Gibson acoustics, by the way, are considered mediocre by many/most guitarists. It sounds like you need to play a lot more different guitars before you'll be ready to pick out a high end one. In the meantime, the Yammie will be a huge step up.
