| Posted: 05 Jan 2016 07:31 PM PST youre YOU for starters how an individual identifies is largely about what they act out in their lives - what culture you embrace - who are your people if that doesnt really bother you in any way - you are simply the nationality where youre a citizen - nothing else is required as for "blood", well thats complex - if you really felt it was necessary you would need to establish the ethnicity of at least each grandparent take somewhere like the Bahamas - like many nations in the region the indigenous people were I believe entirely exterminated or displaced - those there today are largely a mix of african, and european ancestry |

| Posted: 05 Jan 2016 05:19 PM PST Why do Americans always think my Russian friend is Black and African-American when he visits the U.S.A? Update: His lineage is Russian and Slavic. Update 2: @Puke, He's not black, He's Biracial and his ethnicity is Russian. Update 3: Also, black means someone who has Sub-Saharan African ancestry, and he doesn't have any African heritage. | Question: How would I find out the names of my great-grandfather's birth parents or his birth name? Posted: 05 Jan 2016 02:11 PM PST First of all if he was adopted then it is a sealed adoption state so they will not have any birth cert if it is sealed. I don't know when adoption began in NYC but 1910 is early for official adoption many countries didn't have officially organised and regulated adoptions, children were placed/given to families unofficially they assumed the name of the family and that was it, so no record This is worth a read and also investigate when adoption was formalised in NYC |
| Question: How do I found my long lost sister if I don't know her name? Posted: 05 Jan 2016 11:57 AM PST What you want NOW, makes you sound like a 5yr old throwing a sulk to get your own way......fact is you have no hope of finding this person with zero information but a given name of the mother, which is useless and a fathers full name, who clearly was not a father in any way so unlikely he is even recorded as the father...... you have nothing to base your search on even if birth indexes are available for you to search Try FB and other social media |
| Question: My surname is Dunham can you tell me where what country that is please? Posted: 04 Jan 2016 09:32 PM PST Sounds English to me. Let me go check and see if I'm right. EDIT: It appears I hit the nail on the head. Yay, me! https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=origin%20surname%20dunham All I did to obtain that information was Google "origin surname Dunham." It's amusing to me that people ask questions about stuff like this here on Answers when they could've just gone straight to Google and gotten a lot more information a lot more quickly. Answers isn't a very efficient means of obtaining information. It's more just a silly place for us to entertain ourselves, unless we're looking for people who are experts on the care of bearded dragons or stuff like that. |
