| Question: Is the Universe really infinite? Posted: 23 Jan 2016 02:53 AM PST We don't know. The conventional cosmological model predicts either a finite universe with positive spatial curvature, or an infinite universe with a zero or negative curvature. Some of the respondents here are assuming that because the universe began as a singularity, it must be finite. That is a mistake. A singularity doesn't necessarily have the structure of an isolated point, and therefore need not imply finiteness. |
| Question: Is there real evidence of Plato's forms? Posted: 23 Jan 2016 02:08 AM PST Simply put you can perceive (or conceive) forms without reality, but you can't perceive reality without forms. To use Platos argument this puts the abstract world of mind above the material world. I can see his point but we survive, partly at least, in the material world and our perceptions require verification (Descartes rule 1 again!) |
