| Question: Kalimar autozoomk86112401value? Posted: 31 Jan 2016 08:12 AM PST 86112401 - This is the serial number. You need to supply the focal length and maximum aperture. Look for something like 70-200 f/4-5.6. Kalimar wasn't all that great of lens when it was new many decades ago. On average, the lens is probably not worth more than $15-$30. |

| Question: In photography, what is 1 1/2 stops less than 1/125 sec @ f/22? Posted: 31 Jan 2016 07:08 AM PST In the jargon of photography, the "stop" is an increment of exposure. One (1) stop is a doubling or halving of the amount of light energy that we allow to play on the surface of the digital imaging chip or film, if we are talking about a film camera. This is the exposure energy well call "exposure". The modern camera can automatically make the exposure adjustment by changing the working diameter of the camera lens or by changing the duration of the shutter opening. These adjustments can be made separately or in unison. Skilled photographers often prefer to make these adjustments manually. Since the lens has a circular opening, we are allowed to change its working diameter with a mechanically adjustable iris. The camera's iris mimics the human eye. The colored portion of our eyes is actually a muscular controlled opening. The iris diameter is an automatic response to the light level of our surrounds. Because this is the colored portion of our eye it is named for the Greek god of the rainbow "Iris". The advanced camera allows us to make this lens opening diameter change. The gradation of openings are labeled using a system we call the f-numbers. This is a number set based on the geometry of circles. The number set is: 1 – 1.4 – 2 – 2.8 – 4 – 5.6 -8 – 11 – 16 -22 -32 – 45 – 64. Note each number going right is its neighbor on the left multiplied by 1.4. In geometry, if you multiply the diameter of a circle by the square root of 2, you are calculating a revised circle with twice the surface area. When a lens is expanded by twice its surface area, it gathers 2x more light. Conversely dividing by 1.4 calculates a revised circle diameter with half the surface area. The above list of f-numbers is a long one; most lenses only sport a portion of this range. Likely your lens inscopes f-2.8 thru f-22. tiny aperture openings are f-16 and f-22 while large openings allowing lots of light in to make the exposure are f-2.8 and f-4 etc. The above f-number set affords 2x incremental changes. Sometimes this is too coarse. We can also work in ½ f-stop and this allows finer f-stop adjustments. The f-number set in ½ f-number steps is: PS Because your camera does not allow using f-number below f-22, you will need to make a shutter speed change and an f-number change. The shutter increment of adjustment in f-stops is 1/15- 1/30 1/60 - 1/125 - 1/250 - 1/500 is a 2x change in duration of time from the next. Good luck with your homework. |

Because the image is rather low definition its rather hard to tell for use, but it is possible the guy on the right, has been photoshopped into the image! Found a larger version of the image, and there is evidence of feathering in places around the guy on the right suggesting he has been added to the image! |
