| Question: Shorthand and calligraphy pens is there a difference? Posted: 11 Jul 2014 11:16 AM PDT shorthand and calligraphy pens is there a difference? I am trying to learn (Pitman) shorthand and it said I need a special pen, when I looked it up they were pretty expensive. But I had calligraphy pens already, so i used that instead. It seems to be working, is there a big enough difference that it will effect me later on? |
| Question: What is reverse ethnography? Posted: 11 Jul 2014 07:56 AM PDT While I am no expert, I believe "reverse ethnography" involves an attempt to challenge the assumptions and practices of ethnography. In other words, such work points out how problematic the findings of ethnographers can be. For example, take a look at the following link regarding http://undergroundwoods.wordpress.com/20... While this is just one commentary via film, it may help dramatize the effect. According to Nathan James Smith, "reverse ethnographic documentary is based on observations of globalized society by indigenous cultures." [Smith, N. J. (2011). A Balance of Perspective in Global Society: An Argument for 'Reverse Ethnography' in Documentary Film. (Thesis, Master of Science Communication). University of Otago. Retrieved from http://hdl.handle.net/10523/2266] In other words, Smith indicates that although most ethnography represents action by investigators from developed countries [regions that used to get called the 'first world'] conducting research on subjects from less developed countries [regions that used to get called the 'third world'], reverse ethnography changes that up. |
