Question: Can you get surgery to fix flat feet?

If you have inflexible flat feet there is nothing you can do about it. That means bone structure that won't allow pointe work as you would not be able to ever get up on the box of the shoe.
If you have flexible flat feet you can work on doming your feet at the barre ( lifting your arches and pushing your toes forward) and pushing through the floor when doing tendu articulating your feet. You can also work with a theraband. With flexible flat feet you can with work eventually go en pointe but it will just be harder and take longer. You cannot change the height of your arch but you can build a strong flexible point which Is what is required for pointe work.

*Edit: regarding surgery .... if you have an inflexible flat foot that would involve breaking bones in your feet and I would not advise anyone to do that just to be able to wear pointe shoes. Just so you know, most people that have flat feet don't have inflexible flat feet. So it is likely with work you will be able to go en pointe if feet are your only issue. A doctor can tell you which kind of flat foot you have. There is also way more than just having a decent arch to be able to go en pointe. There may be other things preventing you from doing that so getting surgery would not be a wise thing to do just so you can recreationally go en pointe.

Question: What are some stretches I can do to increase flexibility for arabesque?

In general, I'm quite flexible. My front and side extensions are great, whenever we're doing rond de jambe en lair my leg is well above 90 degrees to the front and side, but then it droops so much when I bring it to arabesque. I have a flexible back, I can bend back pretty far, but I just cannot get my leg higher.

I know there's a video about how to get a better arabesque which people have posted here before, but I can't find how to apply it to my technique, despite having watched it numerous times. I also don't think it's my technique which is the problem, because even when my teacher comes over to fix/tweak my position she can't get my leg very high. I've seen her do the same with other girls, and once she adjusts their position, their leg just goes up, up, up. Sooo I'm assuming it's a flexibility issue, not a technique issue.

How can I fix this/increase flexibility? I don't even know what I should be stretching, as I feel like my back is relatively flexible...
