| Question: Clattenburg Family Crest? Posted: 26 Oct 2015 03:59 PM PDT First, heraldry is inherited by a single person, just like a "family estate". Second, the crest is really just an accessory to the coat of arms. Third, there are companies, known as bucket shops, who want to sell you your family crest. Sometimes they are a little less crooked by calling it "the arms of your family name." Sometimes they are honest enough to sell you knicknacks with the arms of a family of the same name as yours. In any case, it's a racket. If one of your ancestors did have a coat of arms, you would only be entitled to it if you were the eldest son of the eldest son back to the ancestor. In many countries of Europe heraldry is regulated and in some it's illegal to use arms you're not entitled to. In the USA, there's no regulation and you are free to use any arms regardless of who has the right to it or even whether it's a genuine coat of arms. If you want to know more, go to your local library and find a book on heraldry.

| Question: How about a genealogy challenge - John Smith, 1920? Posted: 26 Oct 2015 03:13 PM PDT I'm stuck again. Anybody want a challenge? I've got all kinds of records on these folks, EXCEPT the 1920 census. I don't need B, M, D or Find-a-Grave; just the 1920 census. Thanks. 1900, Shady Spring, Raleigh, West Virginia 1910, Shady Spring, Raleigh, West Virginia 1930, Shady Spring, Raleigh, West Virginia |
