| Question: What are less known actors called? Posted: 25 Oct 2015 09:58 PM PDT I want to know what new or lesser known actors are called. I can t seem to remember the exact term. Im talking about the point in an actor or actresses career where they aren t really known to the masses because they are just starting out/not famous yet. For example: In John Carpenters "Christine", he wanted to use a ____ cast to make the story feel more real/believable. |

| Question: Can/should an actor get an agent without experience? Posted: 25 Oct 2015 04:35 PM PDT SHORT ANSWER: Not in the US. LONG ANSWER: There's nothing magical about getting "an agent". They don't guarantee you work. An agent submits an actor for jobs - an actor still needs to be good enough to get invited to audition and to win roles. That's why agents don't take on inexperienced actors. If an actor has a weak resume and hasn't demonstrates that they're capable of working at a professional level, even if they had an agent submit them for work it's doubtful a casting director would invite the actor to audition. The only exceptions would be very young children (under 10/12) or maybe commercial work if an actor had a unique, marketable look. But commercial agents are not the same as theatrical (i.e. Movie/TV show) agents. And from the actor's point of view - if they have no experience acting how do they know that they would like doing the actual work of acting or that they would be any good at it? The reality of what is involved in acting is different then what some people think. And would an actor want to be on set where everything has to be explained to them and they have to be taken through every step so everyone has to wait for them to catch up? It's not fun being a clueless wannabe with people who know what they're doing. An actor only needs an agent if they're going to work professionally and professional acting is a business. People invest a lot of money in their projects and they are in it to make money. And there are a lot of scams and rip offs that prey on people who mistakenly think actors are just "discovered" and given a career. So in addition to experience (and talent and training) an actor needs a good understanding of the business end of things. |
