| Question: How to get a acting manger? Posted: 28 Oct 2015 05:35 PM PDT First you make sure you understand the difference between a manager and an agent. Agents are licensed and regulated by the state, managers are not. Literally anyone can print up a business card and call themselves a manager. Personal managers advice an actor and help market their career. They cannot set up auditions or negotiate contracts on behalf of their clients - only agents can do that. Managers also get commission on all work an actor gets regardless of how much (or how little) they were involved in helping the actor get work. Just like when you look for an agent, make sure you have a good enough understanding of the industry so you can make a good decision about a manager (if you really need one). Networking is the best way - if an acting teacher, director of someone else in the industry is impressed with you, they may refer you to a manager they trust. Make sure to do your research and recommendations - there are a lot of scams and rip offs out there. Talk to other actors in the industry and read industry trades to find out who the good agents are. Good luck. |
