| Question: Is it best to major in Music Education and Jazz Guitar Studies? Or just Music Education? Posted: 21 Oct 2015 01:06 PM PDT My two main choices to major in are Music Education and Jazz Guitar Studies. I see majoring in Music Education as more profitable because a teaching job has better pay than gigs or teaching private lessons, but playing Jazz is one of my biggest passions. So let's say I only majored in Music Education and had a teaching job, but I also wanted to play gigs. I feel like I wouldn't be as good of a player without having gone through a Jazz Studies degree because I would have more virtuosity as far as soloing over chord changes and knowing different chord voicings. While Music Education is more focused on theory, teaching, and learning all of the instruments in the orchestra. |

| Posted: 21 Oct 2015 08:05 AM PDT If this is a school-owned piccolo, you should expect it to be all metal, or half metal and half resin(plastic; it will be abused from being played outdoors; it will have been poorly repaired; this will all fall on YOU as it will sound awful. Also, the piccolo is NOT a "cute little flute" - it is a different instrument, and requires some different approaches, technique, and LOTS of alternate fingerings. Far and away your BEST bet is to get youwo own piccoo - and NOT NOT NOT some piece of disreputabel plumbing off eBay or s cheap one in a local store. Get a GUO piccolo - they are totally waterproof, so a drizzle while marching will not hurt them. They run about $700 new - and if you decide you are DONE with it after a while, they re-sell IMMEDIATELY, since they are in great demand. They are sweet and flexible to play indoors for concert band/wind ensemble - yet will withstand all the outdoor abuse. So - THEY SAVE YOU MONEY - because they are not in the shop after every wet field show! Yes, I have played these - and now have 3 students who OWN them! Of course, having a good private teacher h to help you get going with this little puppy will help a TON - see if you can make that happen.
