| Question: Can t seem to hit a very simple guitar chord. Please help.? Posted: 26 Oct 2015 01:37 PM PDT In the absense of a teacher, there's nobody to tell you this, so I'll throw out some un-asked for advice: It sounds like you're trying to learn to play a song before learning any basic skills. When people say that Come As You Are by Nirvana is a "beginner song", they're speaking in relative terms. The basic repeating lick isn't that difficult, assuming that you already have mastered simple things like spanning two frets with your fingers. I suggest you slow down a bit and start from the beginning. This free site is as good as any for teaching basic skills: http://www.justinguitar.com/ If you can find a real person...paid teacher, or just a friend...the real-time feedback from somebody who can see what you're doing is the best way to go. With regard to your short fat fingers, I can assure you that we hear variations on the same question every day. It all comes down to correct posture and technique. You probably need to rotate your wrist much farther under the neck that what initially feels natural. That will give you a better attack on the fretboard. Again, a live person could see what you're doing and make subtle corrections. Remember, it's better to learn proper technique right from the start. Bad technique is very hard to un-learn. |
