| Posted: 09 Dec 2015 08:47 PM PST We all have the occasional bad class, days when we're feeling just a bit "off". This is normal, and I'm sure your artistic director is well aware of it. It is actually good that she remembers all your mistakes because that way she can correct you and help you to overcome them. Don't beat yourself up over one bad class. I'm sure she will see you several more times before she casts the spring show and will notice if you correct the mistakes you made in this class. Don't worry and have courage. edit: I have to rebut Natalie's answer. "All teachers remember the good things you do in dance but they just do not refer to them because they want to make you feel like you are not good enough to try harder." This is untrue. Good teachers (and good students) realize that compliments are a waste of time and the corrections are how you learn, not designed to play with your mind to make you "try harder". A truly bad class is one where you get no corrections as it means the teacher has given up on you. Natalie also suggests that you take private lessons. Unless you are in a Dolly Dinkle type of school where buying a semester of private lessons will buy you a solo in the recital, they are recommended only for the more advanced dancers who have a problem that needs addressing in a one-on-one session with a teacher. They don't improve your technique, they just are used for solving a problem. |
