| Question: How did people know their age in ancient times? Posted: 30 Dec 2015 05:16 AM PST There are two questions here. People knew their own age and the ages of people around them at least approximately because they could count up all the years they had actually experienced and could remember, or could ask their parents or other older people The other question is about ages assigned to legendary people in stories told about them long after their deaths (if they existed at all). Those are obviously fanciful: but as you suggest, the huge ages of some of those patriarchs may be a way for the writer to indicate that the person was wise, venerable, etc. I'm sure some historians, literary scholars, etc. have better-informed explanations than I do for this phenomenon. Look in your library for books about the authorship of the different books in the bible. |

| Question: What did the person named "Zenkin" do in Television History? and What is his full name? Posted: 30 Dec 2015 02:29 AM PST I believe that you mean Vladimir K. Zworykin. Zworykin invented a television transmitting and receiving system employing cathode ray tubes. He played a role in the practical development of television from the early thirties, including charge storage-type tubes, infrared image tubes and the electron microscope. An interesting note: Some say that John Logie Baird was the first to invent television; but his was a mechanical (yes, I said mechanical) televison. ... Zworykin (pronounced zwawr-i-kin) was the true inventor of the television as we know it today. |
