| Question: Did Hitler kill Spaniards? or maybe just the Spanish that did not have blue eyes etc.? Posted: 05 Dec 2015 07:28 AM PST What does eye color have to do with anything? Germany was involved in the Spanish Civil War. German involvement began days after fighting broke out in July 1936. Adolf Hitler quickly sent in powerful air and armored units to assist the Nationalists. The war provided combat experience with the latest technology for the German military. However, the intervention also posed the risk of escalating into a world war for which Hitler was not ready. He therefore limited his aid, and instead encouraged Benito Mussolini to send in large Italian units.

| Question: Was the fall of the ottoman empire good thing for middle east? Posted: 05 Dec 2015 07:22 AM PST It could have been, but thanks to Britain and France carving it up along arbitrary borders, in the long run it was probably a negative. The Ottoman Empire was overblown and corrupt, but at least its leadership had something in common with the people in the Mideast, a claim the European powers could never have made. If more independent countries like Turkey had been able to rise up, with ethnically- and religiously-logical borders, much of today's unrest might have been avoided. If Sunnis, Shia, Kurds, and other groups been able to form nations that made sense, the people there might have been less inclined to be radicalized. For instance, a Kurdistan--covering parts of what is now Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran--likely could have been a stable, prosperous nation. Instead, the Kurdish population is split across several national borders, being a minority in all of those countries. Kurdish unrest in Turkey and Iraq is well-known, because they feel that they are an oppressed people, not an independent, empowered group. |

One theory is that England wasn't in a position to win a war in the 1930s and Chamberlain was buying time to rebuild his nation's industrial capacity. Others might have underestimated Hitler's abilities or his intentions. |
