| Question: Is one choice management agency in New York a scam? Posted: 10 Dec 2015 10:32 AM PST It is a MANAGEMENT agency - NOT a TALENT agency. They're not an outright scam. It's legit that it will provide the services it claims - but they don't receive breakdowns from casting directors and they don't submit you for work like a legitimate talent agency would and their name on your resume will not impress anyone in the industry at all. So the question then is - do you really need/want the services they provide? There are a lot of companies that prey on people who don't understand how the industry works or how to run their acting career as a business. They offer services that are suppose to help an actor get "discovered" or something - but that's just not how the industry works. They like to tout their "success stories" of people who once used their services and went somewhere - but they don't mention that the person didn't necessarily get where they were because of the company or what they did. Once you have a good enough understanding of the business end of the industry and how you and your skills fit in, you'll be in a better position to look for outside services that might effectively help you reach your career goals. |
| Question: What exactly does you re what you own mean? Posted: 10 Dec 2015 10:23 AM PST It means you have no intrinsic value by yourself - all the matters is what you own. Those people who own more things (have more money, etc) are worth more then those that don't. It discounts things like relationships people have, non-monetary contributions people make, and potential for success down the road. It is a very shallow way of looking at people and the world. |
