| Question: Would I have to pay even if I haven't found anything about my past on Ancestry? Posted: 25 Dec 2015 10:32 PM PST If you have subscribed, you have to pay. You can cancel and discontinue paying. However, on Ancestry.Com or ANY WEBSITE, you don't trust family trees until you have verified the information with actual documents/records. You have to distinguish between the records they have and their subscriber submitted family trees which are not records. Even when you see the absolute same information on the same people from many different subscribers that doesn't mean it is accurate as too many copy without verifying. No, the websites do not verify the information their subscribers submit. You shouldn't start with the internet. First get as much information from living family as possible. Maybe some have some birth, marriage and death certificates on your ancestors. Maybe some have some old family bibles, old family photos, old wills, deeds, letters from elderly and deceased relatives. Depending on the religious faith of your ancestors, baptismal, confirmation, marriage and death records from their churches can usually be just as helpful if not more so than civil records. Find out if any of your family has any certificates from your ancestors' churches. Go to a Family History Center at a Latter Day Saints (Mormon) Church. They have records on people all over the world, not just Mormons. If you find anything at all in their database you would like to view and print off a copy of an original document, they can order microfilm for you to use there for about $5. I have never had them to try and convert me nor have I heard of them doing that to anyone else that has used their resources. A lot of their volunteers are not Mormon. |
| Question: Where Does My Last Name Amaro Comes From, And How Far Back In History It Comes? Posted: 25 Dec 2015 10:26 PM PST Amaro Name Meaning Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese: of uncertain and multiple origin. In part at least, it is from the Germanic personal name Amalric, introduced to northern Italy by the Lombards and to the Iberian peninsula by the Visigoths. In Sicily, it is from a nickname meaning 'bitter', 'unlucky', or 'disappointed' or from an Arabic personal name 'Ammar'. In Portugal, it is from a personal name Amaro, of disputed origin.
