| Question: Question about my photo...? Posted: 04 Dec 2015 07:44 AM PST I can see what you are trying to do, use a long exposure (1 sec) to make the water look a little like cotton, but with your lens stopped down to f/22, there is some degradation of the image. Try using a 9 or 10 stop ND filter next time and set the lens at from one to two stops down from wide open (the sharpest aperture of your lens). NOTE: The colour image of the same shot "reads" much better than the overly contrasty black and white version There are some other issues with this photo which you may want to address when you reshoot it later using an ND filter. Use the rule of thirds when composing the shot and make sure that the exposure shows detail in the shadow area of the image. Just use the lightmeter in your camera to pick the correct exposure and look at the histogram to assure that there is good data in the dark areas of the photo In the second photo, the camera settings show the lens aperture was f/5.6 at 0.3 second shutter speed. There is some slight blur showing (look at your photo at 100% and study the detail). The on-board flash helped reduce the blur seen in the shot, but in the future, plan on using a sturdy tripod when using shutter speeds slower than 1/125th second. |
