Ok so I'm going to be beginning pointe and I'm not sure what type of shoe to get. I have the "peasant foot", medium in width and my street shoe size a 7 or 7.5. I have a medium arch so I need a little more support. What should I get and what size?

Question: I have a dance recital soon and i don't know what to bring! i am not on pointe so don't include that. i know to bring costumes and shoes.?

Question: What should I have for ballet class?

First call your school and see if there is a dress code. If there isn't any, standard ballet attire is a black leotard, ballet pink ballet tights and ballet pink ballet slippers. As a beginner it is best to start with a full sole leather slipper (not a split sole canvas slipper) as it will work your arch more helping to build a strong point. Slippers should fit snug but not so snug that your toes curl under. They will stretch to form to your foot as you work in them. Look for a local ballet shop or ask your school the closest place that sells dance supplies. While you should get your ballet slippers fitted properly at a dance shop for your first pair, if you had more time, you could get your leotard and tights online at someplace like Discount Dance Supply.
If this is your first class and you are not sure if you wish to make a commitment, perhaps just get the slippers and wear leggings and a form fitting shirt (tank or T shirt)

Question: Tips for ballet?

It's worth it if you like ballet. I've been dancing since I was 13, and I love it. It's hard and there have been times when it's been very frustrating, but I think it is absolutely worth it.

You should look and see if there's a local dance store in your town. Although you can buy tights and leotards online, it's best to get fitted for shoes, because the fit for those is a bit harder to figure out online, and it's very important.

If there aren't any dance stores near you, you can buy ballet slippers online, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll need leather full-sole slippers. You can also buy a leotard and tights at a local dance store, or online at a place like discount dance supply.

If you're buying leotards/tights at a store, the person there can help you figure out the right size. If you're buying online, there are size charts, so you can measure yourself and figure out what size you need to wear.

Before buying a leotard, check to see if your studio has any dress codes. Some places require everyone to wear a certain color leotard, or restrict certain styles. If there isn't a dress code, I'd suggest getting at least one black leotard, because it's a good staple to have.

Have fun and enjoy ballet!

Question: Does anyone know anything about this school?

Nutmeg is in the same ballpark as Walnut Hill. Neither are the best way to go for optimum chance of a ballet career as going with an affiliate feeder school to a ballet company is a far better way to go. That being said, it is still possible training there but less likely for success then if you go to a world class ballet school. If you cannot get into this school or Walnut Hill, you would not likely have a chance at a career as a ballet dancer as these schools are far from elite. So, for someone with possibilities for a ballet career, this school will be very easy to get into. Much more so than an elite school like SAB or JKO. For someone with absolutely no real chance of a ballet career even this school may be out of reach. If you don't get into this school, then a chance for a ballet career maybe something you would have to rethink.
