Arts & Humanities: Philosophy: “Question: What do you think of "The Truth Contest" website?” plus 4 more

Question: What do you think of "The Truth Contest" website?

"This contest is seeking the answers to the big questions of life, where we come from, where we are going, why we are here, the truth about life and death. If you know the answers, make an entry."

I see it constantly coming up all over the internet, on youtube, facebook - everywhere.

Question: Is there knowledge in this world I have to really want it, to be able to find it?

Posted: 15 Nov 2014 09:54 AM PST

There are different kinds of knowledge - Empirical knowledge, wisdom and self knowledge - Religion means relinquish - And as the parable of the lost son suggests, man wakes up to his true nature - True self.

"God said, "To reveal the secrets of my abundant love, I created a mirror whose face is consciousness and whose back is the world." JALALUDDIN RUMI

◄ Matthew 16:23 ►
Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns."

Self-Knowledge is the basis of our true being. The ignorant do not have it, and hence they are so called. ASTAVAKRA SAMHITA – Chapter XVIII - P150

Corinthians Chapter 1
19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

There are no secretes - Do not enter rooms that do not exist.

"And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places..."
~Isiah 45:3

Question: Do I choose devoting my life to her, or devote my life to learning?

Posted: 15 Nov 2014 09:12 AM PST

I just broke up with this girl, but when I saw her crying profusely, I realized how much she loved me, and how much I loved her.

Before now I wanted to experience the most intense experiences, be in the worst situations, and experience many women before I died. I would publish my views on the world.

But now I want to devote my life to watching her grow, hearing her thoughts. I can financially secure our life together very easily.

The main question is: will I be under her trance forever? Will I want to be with her forever? Is there knowledge out there that is more gratifying than watching a sweet, innocent girl grow up?

Question: Points for agreeing with the statement "Our families are better equipped to make serious decisions about our love life"?

Arranged marriages are statistically happier and less prone to divorce as "love matches".

Of course I could give a hoot about statistics. My theory is don't date someone you haven't already known for two years.

If you can tolerate them as an acquaintance why would you marry them?

Question: There is no remedy for love but to love more Agree or Disagree?

Posted: 15 Nov 2014 08:16 AM PST

Remedies are to cure problems. Love is not a problem to be cured but rather an act of your will. It is often mistaken for a feeling or emotion. It is neither. When you love someone, you commit yourself to that person. That is an act of your will not an emotion or feeling. Here is what the Bible says about love:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

As you can see none of these things are based on emotion but rather acts of a persons will.
