Question: Small hands on the piano?

I can barely hit a low and high note at the same time., like E and E.

I have to stretch my hand to hit those notes and my fingers rub against the key next to it.

Question: Best way to memorize something?

There are different methods you can use that are adjusted specifically to the way you learn for an example, I am a visual learner so I use flash cards to help me memorize. Theres also the hands on learning in which writing notes can help you memorize. Glad I can help! :)

Question: I'm nervous about performing in front of a small group?

The problem is that it is an intimate setting for you. A large crowd is mostly anonymous and you can't see them, really. In a classroom you are up close and personal with a bunch of kids you know.
that is way more stressful than a large crowd.
You dont say what your "performance" is....BUT it doesn't matter...you need to be confident and think you are the Sh*t! Own the podium/stage/whatever.. Do NOT think of your classmates "judging" you. performers are expected to perform. don't be shy, give it your all, that is what is best in performing..even if you suck..if you believe what you are doing, the audience will, too.
Really crappy singers get by on their emotion and conviction when they sing. A good singer can suck if they are too technical and don't engage the audience.
Look people straight in the eyes and show them you are totally committed to what you are doing.
I can't tell you how many times I thought I sucked during a live show, and had so many people congratulate me on how awesome I was LOL

Question: What comes after All-State Band?

NAfME has four quadrants in the US that have Divisional groups. There are also groups that represent the entire US. If you go *outside* the hierarchy of NAfME ( formerly MENC) sanctioned ensembles, there are things sponsored by specific groups like ACAD (American Choral Directors Association) ASTA (American String Teacher Assoc.), etc. Talk to you own school directors - see what is what, where you live.

Question: What kind of guitar should I get?

Posted: 12 Nov 2014 05:15 PM PST

The amplifier is the most important factor is a guitarist's sound. Also, you need to realize that the sound of that group's guitar is most likely recorded either direct from an amp head or with really big speakers and miked directly up to the amp. And with a good studio setup.
The guitars he uses are mostly guitars with simple humbucker pickups. Strats with humbuckers or Les Paul type guitars. probably with a really nice tube amp.
but it is hard to reproduce "studio" sounds "live" with any equipment.
Even cheap equipment with an experienced player can sound good if recorded well.
Now....admittedly, this is not the sound of 3 days grace, my style is Classic Rock...but I recorded these at home with my computer, and with a $150 squier guitar and a $100 Line 6 amp.

but the principle is the same. To start out with, you can get a nice Epiphone G-400 or Les Paul plain top and a good amp....I suggest a Peavey Vyper...ot a Line 6 Spider IV 15 to learn on.
The amps can be had for $100-120 and an Epiphone can be had for $200-300.
As a beginner, it is about learning the guitar, not the "sound" so much.
do not expect to be great right off the bat. It takes years of practice and learning to be "good"
As proud as I am of my skills, when I played the club circuit, I met and played with guys way better than me and they were still left in obscurity.
I had the pleasure of performing with members of bands who played at Woodstock and Grammy winning artists, and I worked hard since the age of 9 to play guitar.
it is merely luck and a group of guys that have the ability to create their own music that catches the attention of the public that are successful.
Many of the guys I know would blow away ANY of the "new" era of musicians.
So..there are 100's of guitars that could be played to play the music. The type is immaterial.
New players tend to think that they need a specific guitar to sound like their idols.
Not so.
You need to learn how to play. That's it. And it can be done on pieces of crap guitars.
You should see that crap I used in the 70's. We didn't have 1000's of choices like today. About 6 brands and limited types. Limited effects. Limited amp choices.
But the MUSIC and the education is what counts.
So ....you can learn guitar with $300 if you want.

What kind of guitar should I get?

Hi. So I want to learn how to play the guitar but my ultimate goal is to play music like 3 days grace. You know songs like Animal I have become or I hate everything about you. That hard metalrock I just wanna play that hardcore guitar part where the guitar really rocks. I know its going to be a electric guitar. My price range is from 0 to 500 dollars for just the guitar. If you have a guitar that would be great for playing music like that and its 600 dollars suggest it anyway. What kind of guitars do the bands Black Veil Brides and Three Days Grace use. I know they are propably 3000 dollar guitars but if there is some close guitar like that that's within 1000 dollars just mention it please. Another question is would it be best for me to start with an acoustic guitar first or can I learn to play the guitar on an electric guitar. I don't want to buy 2 guitars but I will if its better to start on an acoustic one. Thanks guys. If you have any additional thoughts just email me.
