| Posted: 14 Aug 2015 09:37 PM PDT One of the most important things in pas de deux is trusting your partner. Also you cannot be dead weight. You both have to do the work. First Pas classes and you would be working on your center of balance with your partner so what is centered and off can be felt. Simple things like promenades and small jumps doing echapees and perhaps starting with pirouettes on the second class. This is what one might expect in a first class: The girl is pushed off balance by the boy, then pushed back onto balance. This can be done on flat, on demi-pointe, and en pointe, until the idea of what "off" feels like in distinction from on. He lets her go right, and center, and left and center, pull back and center, then forward and center. Next comes elementary promenades with the girl in retire, and moved by the arms in seconde. First a promenade to the inside, then to the outside, then let go and balance. Repeat, partnered at the waist. Then next, something where the girl has to move while partnered, as an arabesque penche. The girls lineup and they move continuously from one boy to the next across the room. First to one side, then to the other. Next come the first elementary lifts, three changements, the first two not lifted, the third one with lift. Again, moves from one boy to the next. Promenades in first arabesque partnered by the arms. Same partnered at the waist. Then a chasse back, developpe croise devant, tombe and a lifted assemble after that. And then end with a repeat of the earlier changement combination, but this time the third one is as many beats as the girl can fit in while she's being lifted. After that, in the next class you would start on pirouettes. Lifts start right away with some simple lifts as I have mention above. Although it might not be totally identical as I described, this is pretty much basic beginner Pas de deux class |
