Question: Do I have any chance in becoming a professional actor? Posted: 26 Aug 2015 07:39 PM PDT Before anyone responds, please read what i have to say. I know how hard it is to get into the theater business. I know, because I have been participating in theater for 12 years, and it hasn't been peaches and cream. I am well aware of how often you are picked over for roles for a number of foolish reasons, and how hard it is to get a job. As for training, I have taken school classes for 2 years. I took voice lessons for 3 years, with a well-established vocal instructor, with a litney of professional alumni. I studied musical theater dance for 6 years, along with a little instruction in ballroom (swing, mostly), jazz, lyrical, modern, aerial, hip hop, and ballet. I recently was accepted into an extra-curricular acting school, in which I will receive more technical training. I have, also, done one professional youth theater production, if that counts for anything. I have been told that I am very good, and not to come across as egotistical, but I think I agree. The truth is, I am going to be planning for college soon, and knowing whether or not I am interested in pursuing a career in theater changes things quite a bit. I hadn't thought about continuing this as a career, dismissing the idea on account of being impossible. However, recently I watched a mini-documentary made by a woman who was chorus in a Broadway show. As I watched, I felt myself getting excited. Being an actress is something I am willing to do and work for.Could I become a professional? Thanks for any help!
Question: HELP Which song should I use my Once Upon a Mattress Audition? Posted: 26 Aug 2015 07:21 PM PDT So here is my issue: I have an audition on Sunday for Once Upon a Mattress, and I really want the role of Winifred (obviously.) I have a vocal coach but she had to go out of town and I have no idea what song to sing! I am a mezzo soprano and I have done theatre performances for several years, yes I know how unprofessional it is to find a song last minute, but I have been very busy with my last show and I started college this week. I have been looking for character belt songs, and I think I narrowed it down to two. "Johnny One Note" (Yes it does not hit the D flat that Winifred can sing but it is a good character song) Which one would be the better pick? The theatre I am auditioning for is not professional, its my home children's theatre and I will bet that I will be one of the oldest girls to audition (18) Thank you for your help!
Posted: 26 Aug 2015 07:18 PM PDT It s a more or less short play, that, at least I thought, is usually in most high school textbooks. It opens with a girl, the fiance, locking herself in the bathroom and refusing to come down to get married. Her father, who s angry that he spent so much money on the wedding and his daughter isn t there, and her mother try to talk her out of the bathroom. When she refuses, the parents keep arguing on how to get her out. The father tries to walk along the outside of the building to get in, while it s raining, but fails. Finally, the father gets into the closet to ask the daughter why she won t get married, and her answer is that she was afraid she d turn out like her parents, who always fight. The play ends when her fiance comes to get her out, and all he has to do is say, "Cool it." I cannot remember name, and Google has failed me, I suppose because it s not THAT popular, but I dunn o.
