| Question: Where on-line can I find birth and/or death records for ancestors of mine from any state? Posted: 17 Aug 2015 04:49 PM PDT No place is correct. You have an option. You either WANT YOUR CORRECT family tree.. or you want to sit down, hit the keys a few times and have magic deliver it to you. EVERY SINGLE ANCESTOR IS UNIQUE. If grandpa Jones died in Texas in 1940, his death cert is online at familysearch. If he died in Okla, it isn't. If he died in 1847 in Georgia, there are no birth or death certs.. they did not even exist. You will need to figure out the next likely place to find the info ie a will at the courthouse, maybe a tombstone (if they had the money for one). Yes.. I am trying to get your attention by being blunt. Genealogy is a puzzle, which is long term and often a challenge to figure out what NO ONE ELSE KNOWS. It isn't always online. It is not always public record. That does not mean it is "not doable". Birth and death certificates were only started about 1900 in most states. Hint. Birth CERTIFICATE is not the only kind of birth RECORD. People researched ancestors before ancestry.com and before computers. You DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE TO PAY. I don't pay for any service. You can pay for ancestry.com.. if you don't know how to work it, you still will not see the info, even if it is there. It's your choice what you want. If you want genealogy that is valid.. stop looking for a website. Start looking at Grandma Smith... and defining WHAT you need to prove about her, and WHERE it can be found. There are thousands of free genealogy sites. Hint. Google Arizona death certificates instead of "free genealogy", and you will get there a whole lot faster. http://www.cyndislist.com/beginners |
| Posted: 17 Aug 2015 01:34 PM PDT Start with your family. Search your grandparents' parents on both sides and work your way back to determine if they stayed in the county or moved from somewhere else. Use Census information to get dates and other name. Ex. Start with the year your father was born or died, then get the year your grandfather was born/died, and then your great-great-grandfather and so on. The fun is searching. |
