| Question: If Hitler was caught would he have been brought to the Nuremberg Trial? Posted: 18 Aug 2015 06:02 AM PDT No. In fact there probably would have been no Nuremberg trials or end of WW2 as the war would have raged on. The SS were sworn to Hitler and they would have been galvanized to fight the Russians to get him back. With the death of the Fuhrer did the SS lose their loyalty and so did not fight to the last man as was planned. The Nazis lost the war more becasue of the loss of Hitler than becasue of Russian and Allied victories. The Nazis' were superior to both in terms of military and technology as they had pretty much dedicated 100% of their apparatus to the war effort. |
| Question: Why was trench warfare used less in WW2? Posted: 18 Aug 2015 05:55 AM PDT WW2 was much more a war of movement, so there was no point in making huge trench systems. In fact, the the way the German panzers outflanked the Maginot line proved that static defences were pointless. However, small trench systems were widely used in WW2 - for instance, every airfield had so-called "slit trenches" as quick and easy shelters against air attack. Infantry subject to air attack soon adopted the same idea. Interestingly, the Wikipedia entry says "foxhole" and "slit trench" describe the same concept. Your mileage may vary.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defensive_... |
