| Posted: 14 Aug 2015 12:50 AM PDT Almost everything you do at the barre if done properly is meant to help with engaging and holding your turnout muscles. Especially round de jambes a terre. It is all about how you work at the barre. You must use those muscles deep within your hips and pelvic floor while wrapping your upper thighs outward always making sure you are in proper alignment. If you think consciously when you are at the barre when you work you will build those muscles. This is something your teacher should have addressed when you first started ballet classes and not when you are talking about pointe shoes years later. I am hopeful that you weren't approved for pointe shoes with so little control over those muscles. Turnout is harder to hold en pointe because you can't cheat it easily like you can on flat. If you cannot full engage and hold your turnout en pointe you will get injured and I would hate to see that happen. EDIT: I saw your Q & A and see you got pointe shoes a few weeks ago and they were too wide. That makes you unstable en pointe even if you had strong turnout muscles. Based on those shoes along with your lack of turnout that is a disaster in the making. You have even a higher risk of getting injured. Even if you just stay at the barre. I suggest you seek a more qualified teacher who will take you off pointe and give you a chance to build the proper muscles. Then when you are ready, sees you are properly fitted for pointe shoes. |
