| Question: Looking to see how much it cost to develop a roll of 35 mil. film (24 pictures)? Posted: 17 Aug 2015 10:12 AM PDT Hi Dana, 35mm film usually costs around $5 or less to process at a consumer grade lab and another $5 give or take to have the resulting negatives scanned to digital files or printed. The cost to process a roll of film does not differ if you have 12, 24 or 36 shots on the roll. The scanning or printing cost MAY change but not by much. Unless you live in a big city, you may find that local film labs have closed in your area. If that is the case, I'd highly recommend mailing your film to www.TheDarkroom.com for quality/budget processing and scanning or printing. Also, if you have questions about film processing costs, size of prints, scans, etc, it's best to visit or phone the lab you are expecting to use. Asking these questions on Y!A will not give accurate answers to the particulars of individual labs. It's best to ask the lab employees themselves. Best of luck and please don't forget to choose a best answer! |
| Question: Would I be able to publish some photographs of people i've taken in public? Posted: 17 Aug 2015 09:58 AM PDT Yes you can publish the photographs. Generally, you own the copyright to pictures you take in public places and may use them as you like. People who are out in public generally have no expectation of privacy, so you may use their pictures also. There is a plethora of case law surrounding this subject including Campbell v Mirror Group Newspapers Ltd [2004] wherein it was held that there can be no right to privacy where a person does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy. For images captured in locations where there can be no reasonable expectation of privacy, you do not need the permission of the individual(s) who appear in that photograph in order to publish it online, in a newspaper, textbook or in a magazine. The Data Protection Act includes a 'special purposes' exemption and such publication would not constitute a breach of the right to privacy. However, with regards to the images taken in a private property it would be wise to seek written confirmation or get them to sign a waiver allowing you to use the image. Find their email address and ask if permission is granted. Generally if a private property is open to the public (like a restaurant, retail store, tourist areas, etc) you are allowed to take photographs and video unless it is expressly posted somewhere on the premise that you can't. In most cases it's okay to assume you're allowed to take pictures and video in a shop that doesn't expressly forbid it. That said, with regards to images taken on wholly "private" properties you need to get their consent. Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights allows for "a right to a private and family life" so, therefore, you should seek confirmation. |
