Question: Acoustic guitar sliding tips? Posted: 24 Aug 2015 08:00 PM PDT So I'm sure you guys have heard the song "Ten Cent Pistol", and I'm trying to learn it on my acoustic guitar. I need some tips on sliding. How can I slide for longer? I'm pretty good at slides but hitting five notes in one slide is a challenge. Anyways I think I know how to do it and I may just need to practice it more but any tips would be appreciated. Talking about sliding with my fingers.. Not those slide things you buy for guitars.

Question: Why won't my amp work with my guitar? Posted: 24 Aug 2015 04:55 PM PDT My amp is brand new but it won't work with my guitar. I tried plugging in my brother's guitar and it worked completely fine. I think it might be because my guitar is pretty old but I'm not sure about that. It works perfectly with other amps.
Question: Distortion pedal vs amp distortion? Posted: 24 Aug 2015 03:28 PM PDT Yes, it will change how it sounds. There are many different flavors of "distortion," and frankly many of those from a cheap amp (or cheap pedal) are crap. If you check a website like Musician's Friend you'll find literally hundreds of different distortion pedals, each a little different. The idea of all distortion is that it takes energy from the signal and scatters it over other frequencies, creating that sound of "grit" that's a little like static but usually enharmonic to the original note. The two main kinds are overdrive and fuzz. An overdrive replicates the effect of an old tube amp getting pushed too hard - as the gain of the signal gets too hot for the circuit, the sound "breaks up." Old tube amps used to blow up from doing this, but of course modern electronics are designed to get the effect without bursting into flames - cool though that would be. Overdrive is sensitive to the playing style - play harder and it heats up, ease off and your sound gets cleaner. The other kind of distortion is fuzz; a fuzz effect just automatically scatters the frequencies, no matter how hard or soft you're playing. Both have their place, depending on your preferences and the style of music. A lot depends on your amp. A crappy amp is a crappy amp, no matter what, so if you're playing through a cheapie, you might want to save and invest in a good amp before spending money putting a string of pedals in front of it. But that's up to you.
