Question: When's the oldest you can start doing professional ballet?

When's the oldest you can start doing professional ballet?

I'm 13, and pretty flexible. I'm not the best, but I haven't took dance in a while, so I kinda lost it, but I'm definitely much better than average. I can touch the floor with my palms all the way on the floor, I'm energetic, slim, and everyone tells me I have the perfect body to be a ballerina. Long legs and arms. Long neck, barely any hips. The only thing is I'm afraid I'm too old to train for pros. I've done dance before, and even a bit of ballet, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to be a professional one day. :'(

Question: Should I include the metatheatrical Stepdaughter monologue from Six Characters in Search of an Author in my audition repertoire?

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 08:55 PM PDT

Here is the transcript of the monologue:
The Step-Daughter [stops, bends over the CHILD and takes the latter's face between her hands]. My little darling! You're frightened, aren't you? You don't know where we are, do you? [Pretending to reply to a question of the CHILD.] What is the stage? It's a place, baby, you know, where people play at being serious, a place where they act comedies. We've got to act a comedy now, dead serious, you know; and you're in it also, little one. [Embraces her, pressing the little head to her breast, and rocking the CHILD for a moment.] Oh darling, darling, what a horrid comedy you've got to play! What a wretched part they've found for you! A garden . . . a fountain . . . look . . . just suppose, kiddie, it's here. Where, you say? Why, right here in the middle. It's all pretence you know. That's the trouble, my pet: it's all make-belive here. It's better to imagine it though, because if they fix it up for you, it'll only be painted cardboard, painted cardboard for the rockery, the water, the plants . . . Ah, but I think a baby like this one would sooner have a make-believe fountain than a real one, so she could play with it. What a joke it'll be for the others! But for you, alas! not quite such a joke: you who are real, baby dear, and really play by a real fountain that is big and green and beautiful, with ever so many bamboos around it that are reflected in the water, and a whole lot of little ducks swimming about . . . No, Rosetta, no, your mother doesn't bother about you on account of that wretch of a son there. I'm in the devil of a temper, and as for that lad . .

Question: Performing Arts High School Auditioning?

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 07:09 PM PDT

Performing Arts High School Auditioning?

I wish you can answer this as soon as possible. I played the clarinet for about 3 years (I still do) and its only about half a month before my audition to one of the high schools I chose. I asked my guidance counselor about what I should play. He said that it's okay if it's easy, and I should play something I'm really comfortable with. My cousin got into LaGuardia for arts 2 years ago so I asked her about the audition, but of course, it's a different since she was drawing a picture. I want to know how the audition is, like what are they going to look at mostly.
I'm auditioning for Fort Hamilton High School and Edward R. Murrow.

Question: How many a levels can you do at ballet schools in London?

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 08:57 AM PDT

All of the school's listed have several levels. As schools like the RBS are not RAD graded ballet but a more professional training that adheres to the schools own English ballet syllabus, dancers are put in levels by skills not primarily age. However at a certain level of achievement they are the same again as a dancer ages. If dancers don't live up to their potential they are let go. They will screen you for body, facility and musicality along with the level of training expected for a dancer your age. If you don't have all the requirements they will not train you.

Question: What does it mean to "bounce" like bounce your hips in a dance class, and how do you do it?

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 07:10 AM PDT

What does it mean to "bounce" like bounce your hips in a dance class, and how do you do it?

I've recently started taking an interest in dancing, like taking a dance class and I've heard a few of my friends who dance talk about "bouncing" they obviously dont mean like jumping or anything like that. I saw one of my fiend's dances and they started by moving their hips to one side, like sticking them out and up to to the right with their hands on their hips, then pushing them back down, like in a side to side motion, but the right hip would stick up, then go back down. Is this what bouncing is? I;m a litttle confused. If it is it's clearly not just moving your hips from side to side. What is bouncing and how does one do it? I feel liek i should know how to do this if i'm going to take up dancing

Question: Why do you Dance?

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 02:18 AM PDT

It is linked with your emotion.
A dance can show different types of emotions; from sad to happy to even telling a story. It's wordless movements of emotion.
When you add music into dancing, it creates something both visual and sound.
Music also contains emotions and meanings.
You bring these 2 together and you get a powerful and intense result.
Either a professional dancer or doing it in your living room. You should be able to feel the energy and the emotions.

Dancing Questions? Dancers answer, please!?

Okay, so I am 12, (almost 13!) and I am getting started in Dance. I would like to take jazz, hip hop, Irish step, tap, and ballet. My mom says I can only take one class to start, (which I am sooooooooo mad about) and I can do more after. I really want to do them all at the same time. The problem is, I am also really busy, so she might be right about the 1 class to start. Is this a good idea? Or should I do them all at once? Also, how do I get my mom to let me do them all at once. She keeps saying how the Irish step dancing is at another studio then the others and how expensive it is etc. Please help!

Is there a cheap but good quality place to buy fursuits? I have about 1000$ and I need a partial fursuit. (Head, feet, hands, tail.) Any suggestions? I'd rather not have someone who has only made only a few fursuits. I'd like someone professional, but cheap. Ref: http://gingerbaconcookies.deviantart.com/art/Autumn-Reference-Sheet-485573686
What I would like to have (but are not necessarily needed)

Feet: Outdoorsy, plushie hooves, fluffy fur (Not up to the knee, up to the middle of the calf)

Hands: Plushie hooves, fluffy fur, and airbrushed patterns.

Tail: Fluffy. Just... Fluffy. Nothing super specific.

Head: Airbrushed, (moving jaw, or fan in the muzzle would be nice, but aren't needed.) plushie tongue, nose, teeth, and little plushie nubs for the horns, (Squeaker in the nose would be nice.) and last but not least, really good eyesight. My previous fursuit that we made had absolutely no ventilation and terrible eyesight. I don't want a repeat of that :(

Any suggestions guys? Remember, I have 1000$. Thanks!

Without Da Vinci, modern life would most likely be significantly different then we experience it today

Question: What weakness made it impossible to pay for war?

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 09:14 AM PDT

Its never been a problem in UK, we just borrow whatever is required from the Americans. Our government bleeds us dry to "close the deficit" and cant even do that. What they seem to forget is that until they do, and then generate a surplus, the national debt is just going to keep growing. Its rather like a payday lone that isn't paid back, it just keeps growing at an ever increasing rate, and the problem just keeps getting worse. Better just find another war to fight, just to take the voters mind of it! Just put it on the bill!

Question: Why are there so many negative people in this world??

Posted: 30 Oct 2014 08:40 AM PDT

There are many reasons to be negative. There is little cause to have hope, for all things in man's power are invariably corrupted. We feel the magnitude of these evils and minimize them through several techniques, but inherently they still hold us to a certain cynicism or a certain doubt. We each struggle with this. What gives cause for any person to have hope is rare and special, the more if it is lasting.

Question: What happend to people?

Posted: 29 Oct 2014 08:27 AM PDT

Perhaps they're unfamiliar with your foreign qualifications. Can you get your foot in the door with a lower-level job in your field, and then prove that you really are well qualified?

I think you could use an opinion from someone who knows you personally, and won't sugar-coat what they tell you. Maybe there's just one thing in your appearance or approach that gives people a negative impression.

Question: Is there any proof we exist, can you show me the evidence?

Posted: 29 Oct 2014 08:19 AM PDT

You bring up a valid point! There are three unprovable assumptions that are taken on faith in order to practice science because those assumptions cannot be objectively proven:

1. The physical universe actually exists and is not a simulation or projection...

2. The the laws of the universe are constant over time and space.

3. Our five senses give is an accurate picture of the word without filters or alterations..

A fourth assumption that is not necessary to the practice of science is also commonly maintained and that is there is only matter and all phenomena, including consciousness are the product of material interactions.

If an atheist really only believes what can be proven scientifically, then he must prove these four assumptions. So far not a single atheist has stepped up to the challenge of providing objective evidence proving these assumptions to be true.

L refers to these FAITH BASED ASSUMPTIONS as "axioms".

Of course the logical direction this takes is. If science cannot even prove the physical universe exists, on what basis do you demand theist present scientific proof God exists?

This bring us to the limitations of science. There are certain truths that are outside the legitimate scope of science:

1) Existential Truth: Science cannot prove that you aren't merely a brain in a jar being manipulated to think this is all actually happening. (Think of something like in "The Matrix".) It also cannot prove that the world wasn't created 5 minutes ago with the appearance of age (and with fake memories in your head, and half-digested food in your stomach, etc). It does not mean that it is irrational to to believe that our memories are true and that the world is real.It just means that you can't objectivley prove that our memories are true and the world is real.

2) Moral Truth: Science cannot prove that rape is evil. While it is possible to demonstrate, for example, that there are negative physical or psychological effects of rape, there is no scientific test that can prove it is evil. Science can describe how the natural world is, but moral truth carries an "oughtness" (how things should be) about it that goes beyond what merely is.

3) Logical Truth: Consider the statement "Science is the only way to really know truth." How could you prove that statement by science? It is actually self-refuting because there is no scientific test you could use to prove that it is true! Science cannot prove logic to be true because it assumes and requires logic in order for it to work.

4) Historical Truth: Science cannot prove that Barack Obama won the 2008 United States presidential election. There is no scientific test we could perform to prove it. We could have an investigation if we wanted to confirm that he did actually win, but the method for proving historical truths is different from testing scientific truths since historical truths are by nature non-repeatable.

5) Experiential Truth: Science cannot prove that your spouse loves you. When asked why so-and-so loves you, you may cite precedent (times when their behavior demonstrates their love for you) but this is a particular type of historical truth. There is no scientific test that can confirm a lifetime of experience of knowing a person.

So when an atheist asks for proof (The unsaid part of that is "scientific proof") he either does not understand science, or is being dishonest.

Call her Matilda.
Your grandmother & Matilda's grandparent = 1st cousins
Your parent & Matilda's parent = 2nd cousins
You & Matilda = 3rd cousins

She will probably meet that special someone and have children before you do. But, 5 - 15 years from now you will too, probably. Those children will be 4th cousins to each other.

Question: What exactly is my nationality?

Posted: 28 Oct 2014 05:27 PM PDT

It depends on who is asking.

If it's a passport control officer, you're an American.

If it is a friend who came to dinner and wonders how your mom learned to cook so well, you're half Polish and half Italian.

If it's a girl your age with sparkling brown eyes and a dimple (assuming you are a straight male), it's complicated, and you'd be glad to explain it over a cup of coffee, and have her tell you about hers.

Question: Origin/nationality of the family name "Brousenko"?

Posted: 28 Oct 2014 04:24 PM PDT

Never heard of the last name until now but here is some info about the name.

(Russian) , Polish, and Czech: from the Late Latin personal name Romanus, originally an ethnic name meaning 'Roman' (a derivative of Roma; compare Romolo). This name was borne by a large number of early saints, and in the 10th century was given as a baptismal name to Boris, son of Vladimir, the ruler who Christianized Kievan Russia. Boris and his brother Gleb were murdered by their brother Svyatopolk and canonized as martyrs. Use of the name in the English-speaking world is recent, influenced perhaps by the film director Roman Polanski (b. 1933 as Raimund Liebling).

Question: How do I find Native American heritage?

Posted: 28 Oct 2014 03:16 PM PDT

1. There is no "blackfoot tribe". There are 5 tribes that speak the blackfoot language. 4 of them are in Alberta, Canada. The BlackFEET tribe in northern Montana is very small, just a few thousand families, so if she's enrolled there, it will be easy to locate her records. Where was she born?

2. There are northern and southern Cheyenne. (in Montana and Oklahoma) Which one is he? And if he qualified for citizenship, he would have been enrolled (not "registered") at birth. And the BIA would have issued him a CDIB . So there would be ample records of him as a tribal citizen, whether he "embraced" being so or not.

Part of your problem is you are looking for proof of your family stories, instead of just following the history and seeing where it goes.

What is your grandfather's name and where was he born, and when?
What is your grandmother's name and where was she born, and when?

Post that info, and we can check the tribal census records for you, or tell you where to look. Have you checked and found them listed on the US census records?

Question: How can I find out who my grandfather was?

How can I find out who my grandfather was?

My dad's dad is someone we never talk about, my dad's mum married a few times and I saw my dad's birth certificate in a drawer and his birth surname was different, meaning that my grandfather isn't who I grew up thinking he was. I've checked ancestry.org and findmypast, no luck, how can I find out who my grandfather was?

Question: How can you find this out?

If you wish to spend money on entertainment, which is only what this advert is, then that is up to you, it will tell you nothing, but it will make the company money and it might entertain you and if you don't like the results you can always entertain yourself again and have another one and they will send you different results, in fact they will send different results each time you pay for it............. as ancestry doesn't change clearly it is junk......... as for ethnicity you already know exactly what ethnicity you are , as ethnicity means YOUR customs, cultures, affiliations and associations in the home and in the country YOU were born/live in so the food YOU eat the language YOU speak........ it is NIL to do with your genealogy......if you wish to know where your ancestors came from then the ONLY way to find that out is to research this helps you do that it is 100% free and is nowhere on line but you will find the records in your own home http://familytimeline.webs.com/recordsin...
