Question: Color guard right shoulder?

Color guard right shoulder?

I am teaching guard for the first time and am very adamant about technique. The problem is, I am 6'3 so I never had a height issue with a 6 foot pole. I was able to make perfect L shapes with my arms at right shoulder. I let my younger cousin (one of the girls on the guard) hold the flag and showed her right shoulder. I noticed that in order to keep her left hand at her belly button, her right arm had to be extended straight out to reach the tab. I know there are shorter people than her that spin. I have spun with shorter people in the past, but never paid attention as to what they did to accommodate their lack of height. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me in this area so that I can teach proper technique?
