Question: How can I and why can't I tune my guitar?

Posted: 18 Oct 2014 08:51 PM PDT

I went to guitar center today to get new strings for my acoustic guitar. When I opened the pack they looked pretty cool and different. I took off my old strings Nd was prepared to put the new one on when I realized that we accidentally got electric guitar strings. I had to put my old strings back on but when I tuned the guitar, it wouldn't tune!!
Every time I would get it tuned and I'd go back to check it again it would be untuned!
It's really frustrating and I need this guitar tuned by tomorrow.
What am I doing wrong?
Also how can I tune the guitar?
Can you please give me the string starting from the top and the fret.

I'm learning how to play and I have no idea what I'm doing so this is really stressful for me.

Question: Does age matter when it comes to private music lessons?

Posted: 18 Oct 2014 06:21 PM PDT

Yes, she can teach. As long as she knows more than the person that she is teaching. Many young college students teach music instruments on the side. My first instructor was a college freshman and was teaching out of a music store. My second instructor - and a very well accomplished musician - was just a guy who had learned to play guitar. He was quite good, but he didn't have a Master's degree or anything like that. I have taken drum lessons from likewise individuals... one was a music major, but he did not graduate, he was a professional performer. Another, has zero college education and was a top ranked competition drummer. Anyone who says that a person can't teach just because they are 14 yrs old, or just because she's in Junior High school... is just trying to save his job.

You might think of it along these lines Education vs Experience.

Professional musician.
