Question: A question about ethnicity and genes...? Posted: 25 Oct 2014 07:07 PM PDT My Mom did the DNA test because she was adopted and knew nothing about her genetic makeup. Her whole life she has been told she looked very Russian, very slavic. This included Russian people themselves going up to her and asking if she was Russian. My brother, sister and I all have been told this about ourselves too at different times. Her Ancestry.com test showed up with a range 5%-14% ( averaged at 10%) of European Jewish, and 0%-3% ( * Trace Region : "These are regions where you seem to have just a trace amount of genetic ethnicity — there is only a small amount of evidence supporting the regions as part of your genetic ethnicity. Because both the estimated amount and the range of the estimate are small, it is possible that these regions appear by chance and are not actually part of your genetic ethnicity."
Posted: 25 Oct 2014 12:32 PM PDT You have a family story and you need to research your ancestry to prove one way or another who your ancestors were, in reality she was not NA or she would have registered her children when they were born and they to would have registered their children, so your parent would have registered you and you would know, as she didn't and she would not have not done it if she was NA as NA were not American citizens until very recently, so being NA was( is) very important to those who really were( are) You need to start with yourself and the records you already have at home and in the homes of your family and one generation at a time, prove you, your parents, your grandparents and so on, once you get back to 1940 you will have the names you are looking for and census records to look at, that tells you what race people where, so it will be clearly written, if by some chance you find "indian" then you look on the NA rolls, but I think you will find you are one of many whose family tell stories which are not true ( and we all have family stories told by family)
Question: Could you blazon this crest? Posted: 25 Oct 2014 11:52 AM PDT That is not a crest. It is a shield. A crest and a shield are separate components of a coat of arms. A crest is the 3 dimensional bird or beast on top of the helmet. Frequently if man has a coat of arms he will put the crest portion on his stationery. Just because many surname product peddlers call a full achievement of arms a crest doesn't mean it is. The surname product business is a scam. They are not allowed to solicit your business through the United States Postal Service, Someone changed your previous question to Visual Arts and that might be a better category. There are serious genealogist answering questions here and they find the "family crest" questions amusing. This is from the College of Arms website "Q. What is a crest? A. It is a popular misconception that the word 'crest' describes a whole coat of arms or any heraldic device. It does not. A crest is a specific part of a full achievement of arms: the three-dimensional object placed on top of the helm."
Question: How Can I Find Two of My Ancestors? Posted: 25 Oct 2014 11:15 AM PDT How Can I Find Two of My Ancestors? Ok, I have an ancestor, right? I am 100% sure that I am related to her. I have her parents names, birth, death dates, and locations. But I just had a massive face palm moment. I looked at her parents, and they would be too old to have her. They would be in their 70s or 80s when they had her. I am not sure if the dates are wrong, or if they are not her parents at all but her grandparents, or if they are even related at all. I have proof that I am related to my other ancestor, but not these two. My aunt researched a little bit and told me that they were her parents. obviously she did not do a very good job. Is there a way I could find her parents. She is Swedish, and I cannot research ancestors from other countries on Ancestry.com, only ancestors from America. Thanks!
Question: Ancestors That Were Possibly Part of the Mafia? Posted: 25 Oct 2014 11:10 AM PDT Ancestors That Were Possibly Part of the Mafia? Ok, my aunt has been doing some digging on Ancestry, and she found that, number one, she is Italian. Number two, a few of her relatives were part of the Mafia. That kind of blew me away. She found some pictures of them as well. They all lived in New Orleans, Louisiana. She told me the ancestors that were part of it, and I looked them up on Genealogy bank, which has newspapers. I found them. I found an article about someone interfering with a crime scene, and the same person got fined for doing something to a bank (not robbing it), and someone else got jail time for selling hens at too high of a price. But...I am not sure if we are really related to these people. You see, I have been doing some research along with her on her history. The people that she mentioned, while they have the same name and lived in the same place as a few of her ancestors, I think that they are two different people. For one, they were born and died a different year, and they also have different parents. But it's complicated. let's just say, this is what my tree says. "ABC 1980-2010. DEF 1962-2000. GHI 1981-2013." This is what the Mafia members say. "ABC 1983-2009. DEF 1962-1996. GHI 1975-2010."
Question: Looking for Japanese adoption resources to find an old birth family? Posted: 25 Oct 2014 08:22 AM PDT Looking for Japanese adoption resources to find an old birth family? I'm looking for some resources that can help me find my mom's birth family. I have some of her adoption records, and I know she had a sister she was separated from, but she was born in 1954 so it's a bit hard trying to find information.
