Question: I'm thinking of becoming an actress?

Posted: 26 Oct 2014 11:16 PM PDT

This is me my name is Ruméi. So guys I'm thinking of getting my ATPL (airline transport pilot license) and studying drama (acting) all that will take 4 years (ATPL and drama together) in total because I want to move to LA and go do auditions, I don't want to sound like I have an ego but I'm really good at acting and I hear looks do count a little, everybody who've seen me act before told me I have to move to America and they see me becoming an actress and act in a big movie even though they do not know that is my dream. I would really like to hear your guy's thoughts on this, if you guys tell me I shouldn't go after my dreams because it's to far fetched I'll leave it and become a doctor. I currently live in South Africa and really the odds of someone moving to America to do acting is really little I'm the only one in a school of 1300 who wants to do this. So please guys help me I can't decide and I don't know if I should do this. Nothing mean please.

Question: What songs do high schools play in orchestra?

Question: Any tips for auditions?

Posted: 26 Oct 2014 07:36 PM PDT

Hey guys!

My community theatre is having auditions for Hairspray in January. I'm super excited because Tracy Turnblad is my dream role (I'm a bigger girl, so it's nice to have a role that was practically made for me)! I really want to nail my audition, but I'm worried because I'm an alto (close to a mezzo, but those higher notes fall short) and Tracy's part is a mezzo. I've been acting for years and I've had lead roles before, but I am worried that the director won't think I have the vocal skill to play the part. I need tips on extending my vocal range!

I was planning on preparing "I Speak Six Languages" from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee or "My Strongest Suit" from Aida. Are these good audition songs for Tracy? Is there anything else I should prepare?

I REALLY want to nail this audition and get the part. Thank you so much for helping me out! Any tips are much appreciated!

Question: Has anyone auditioned for the murder mystery company before, and what was it like?

Posted: 26 Oct 2014 07:07 PM PDT

I use to helprun a murder mystery company for a couple of years. At auditions we did a game called Carpool of Emotions. 4 people are in a car and the driver (usually one of us)speaks up and has some quirk (like talks in hyperbole). Everyone else in the car (people auditioning) has to pick up on the quirk and mimic it as the scene goes on. Sometimes we would pick up a hitch hiker (another one of us) and then everyone would have to pick up on the hitchhiker a quirk. We do other standard improv games.

When we got rid of the people we knew we didn't want (many people are not as good at improv as they think) we would give an auditioner a basic character and ask them to deliver an monologue.

That you could stay in character, remember other characters and what they said and keep track of what was happening in a scene was more important then having evey line be funny or always having a singer.

Question: Is there a way I could attain a large spherical head prop?

I'm doing a Candyman (Lethal League) cosplay. Is there a good spherical head I could get on the net (for a reasonable price, of course)?-- I'd rather not have to construct this prop.

Question: Tips for lead role in school play?

Posted: 26 Oct 2014 05:00 PM PDT

Be the character. Live the character. Be someone else. Be Belle. Think like Belle. React like Belle.
Acting is not being who you are but depersonalizing yourself and being someone else.

I know the nervousness. It's pressure. The spotlight is on you. The only role I've ever played I nailed because I got into the character. I was a high school celebrity after playing that role. I got into the role, I loved the role, I became the role. Because I treated it like this people enjoyed it.

Once you let go and become the character stuff like crying will come only too easily.

Best of luck.
