Question: Does Ballet help with horse-riding and skiing?

Posted: 20 Oct 2014 12:57 PM PDT

Are they good combination?

I know ballet helps a lot with flexibility and balance, would these be helpful in horse-riding and skiing?

What about coordination? Would it help with these sports?

Is horse-riding good to be combined with ballet or bad?

Thank you

Question: Pointe shoe help?

Posted: 20 Oct 2014 11:03 AM PDT

Hi I never seem to be fitted properly for my pointe shoes. I have a lot of room when I go on Demi pointe and when I go on full pointe I sink in my shoe and a lot of pressure goes on my toes. Also I'm pretty sure my shoes are very small .. I can hardly walk in them. I have gaynor mindens currently.

My foot:
Medium-narrow
Very high arch
Tapered/slightly tapered
Medium toe length

I have strong feet, also very flexible feet causing me to roll over and not feel very supportive. Pointe tends to be painful.

Ps last year I went off pointe for 5 or 6 months maybe even more and I got my new shoes in June and I have been working on them from July- present and they still are very painful.

Do you know any pointe shoes that will meet my foot type? Thank you.

Question: Does anyone know of any improvisational modern dance classes in nyc?

Posted: 20 Oct 2014 05:09 AM PDT

You might want to check Peridance. While you won't find improvisational modern as their modern classes are techique classes, you may find a choreographic workshop. That is where you would explore initializing you own movements. Improvisation is part of that. That is what you need to be looking for at other dance places as well. Just improvising without structure is a fun exercise to do once in a while but without structure it just become unproductive.

Question: Do I quit uni and go for my dream or stick it out? Please help xx?

"In the world of dance, dreams are broken." This is a quote I just heard, and it's true. You are creative in several directions and there is creativity in the job you are studying for. Moreover, it will enable you to fulfill your obligation of keeping a roof over your head, clothes on your back and food in your stomach. Once you have taken care of your obligations you have plenty of time to peruse other forms of creativity on the side. You can continue to take dance classes, you can write or you can act in a community theatre group. If the time comes that you find that you can earn a living in one of these other fields, then you can change jobs, but for now I think you are doing the right thing in studying for a career that will lead to a job. Creativity will always be a big part of your life.
