Question: What gauge strings should I use for drop tuning? Posted: 17 Oct 2014 08:21 PM PDT Plan A: Go at least a couple of gauges heavier, like to 'twelves, and then consider that instrument "specialized" and no longer available for standard tuning. May also need to tweak the intonation adjustments at the bridge. So I'd hope that you have a second guitar for everything else. Plan B: Wait for one of my betters here to speak to this from long experience - I'd go for cnewshadow, who's got it down. Plan C: Once you got a handle on what's needed, bailing on the whole idea, and staying with the old 440 standard, which gets the rent paid. Oh, and brand doesn't matter.
Question: How do you play Iron Man riff on guitar? Posted: 17 Oct 2014 07:32 PM PDT I do 2 string power chord in B (in Standard tuning) So start at the 7th fret E and A string B D D EE G F#GF#GF# D D EE Power chord You can also move the higher chords, same finger pattern up to the A and D strings and play them 5 frets lower. so you don't have to go up so high on the neck.
Question: Improvising on guitar? Posted: 17 Oct 2014 06:54 PM PDT Ryan, those fine bits of playing aren't so much of a "style" as they are the result of some years of hard work, likely professional lessons (except perhaps the third one), and some nice talent to start with. As such, they are not common in the sense that "anybody could do that". The complexity, scale runs, and general precision demonstrated goes far beyond what most of us could do with less than perhaps four or five years of hard work. If you want to play at that level, fine, but it won't be by technique, it will be by a commitment to make it happen over the years to come. So if you aren't already doing it - get a good teacher & buckle down.

Question: What is a good first bass guitar? Posted: 17 Oct 2014 03:52 PM PDT What is a good first bass guitar? I'm 18 and I really want to learn how to play bass guitar but, I don't know where to start. I'm currently seeking a teacher but, I figured I needed to get a bass first. I was just wondering which would be a good one to purchase???
