Question: Ethnicity questions? Posted: 07 Apr 2015 12:25 PM PDT No you are not European, you are America with European ancestors ( that you know of) Ethnicity means YOUR cultures, customs, affiliations and associations in the country YOU were born, brought up live in and in YOUR family home so the food YOU eat the language YOU speak... as you and your parents are American, you have no European ethnicity as none of you have ever had any experience living in Europe
Question: How can i find my biological family? Posted: 07 Apr 2015 09:05 AM PDT Depends on what country you are in, in the UK yes social care services will help you http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.u... and you may find some further information to help you on here http://familytimeline.webs.com/adoptionl...
Posted: 06 Apr 2015 07:41 PM PDT So you have a family story and are word searching, neither will tell you anything about where your ancestry is from, which maybe is why you are having difficulty in finding your ancestry, as you are trying to fit what you are told/or think you know to prove what you think, so instead of doing that research the written records of the people as those lead you back to other records which give you more information. So have you found her on the census in America, if you have and she migrated from somewhere else, then you will find her on American passenger ship records ad those records were written from her own countries ID when the ticket was booked, it will tell you where sh sailed from and to and it may tell you who she was going to live with, who she traveled with that is more use to you than a surname. The word comes in several forms/variants it is an English language job-descriptive surname, it described a person who was employed at, or who had some connection with, the largest and most important building in the settlement, or who lived by such a place. This may have been the great house of a nobleman or the landowner, or a religious house, a monastery or convent and could have been taken several centuries before she used it, the thing is it doesn't tell you what "nationality" the person was, it doesn't tell you that people even 100yrs ago couldn't read/write so spelling were spelt as they sounded, it doesn't tell you if she changed her name, it tells you zero about her, her life, her records.
