| Question: Should I learn guitar or bass? Posted: 16 Apr 2015 08:26 PM PDT There are already a lot of guitar players in the world or in school if you're still in. I'd start with bass. If you're that unsure, flip a coin and see what happens. If you choose bass, consider that you have to learn to read bass cleff instead of treble for guitar. and if you want to get a regualr bass or stand up for jazz. if you're still in grade school, and they have a music program, ask the band director for advice or a private teacher. also the same if you're in college. if you're out of school, find a local music store and see if they offer lessons and get some input from one of them. i play saxophone in jazz at my local community college where i got my associates, and we always have enough guitarists each semester, but sometimes never any bassists and the teacher usually fills in. if there's a local community college near you also, if you're old enough, you could look there to see what classes they have and if they have private teachers there too. good luck. |

| Posted: 16 Apr 2015 07:12 PM PDT There is no best, Its all a matter of preference, I started on some really crappy guitars back in the early 70's, which believe me there was a lot of them if you didn't have the money to afford the big name brands, Today is another matter, as its hard to find a crappy guitar unless your on the serious budget, Name brand is unimportant, just find one for now that you like, Learn to play it and you'll eventually develop a preference further down this long road, Your first one will be just a memory, Kinda like X wife's. only real difference is you only spent $200 on your first guitar, the X you may want to add a few zeros to that Nasty Troll of Infinite Wisdom · 1 hour ago
