Question: Stuck Directing a Shitty Play? Posted: 14 Apr 2015 02:03 AM PDT The play I was assigned to direct in my high school drama class is GOD AWFUL. It's called "Mistake Identity" (Sharon E Cooper) and even my cast hates it. What can I do to make it better/not suck without changing the script?
Question: Why are some actors so into themselves? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 11:02 PM PDT Well, how dare they make it all about themselves, when it should be all about YOU! Seriously, people will talk about what interests them and what is going on with their lives. You might feel left out if you aren't into acting as well. If they were athletes, they would be into sports talk. The selfie thing is probably just a sign of the times--with young people doing this all the time even if they aren't actors. If you also think about it, it would take a somewhat extroverted person to want to act in the first place. It's not that actors can't be shy, but there is something that makes them want to perform in public in the first place. Because there is also a LOT of rejection--sometimes quite harsh and personal (like being told they are looking for someone better looking than you)--they have to have a way of fluffing themselves up either with real or faked confidence and belief in themselves to keep up the drive it takes to have any kind of success. .
Posted: 13 Apr 2015 10:15 PM PDT You are on the spot, thus in a better position to do the analysis than any of us "random" respondents. Somehow you face fits (or is it your lips?!), so you get the parts. Also, you do not tell us the circumstances of your acting. Is it an a local drama club, local theatre, national movie production company, etc?
