Arts & Humanities: Philosophy: “Question: Is beating myself up over the past everyday truly pointless?” plus 5 more

Question: Is beating myself up over the past everyday truly pointless?

If you did bad things you SHOULD feel guilty. I know having morals is out of fashion but you have a conscience TO beat you up when you do wrong.

Congrats, you are not a sociopath. Those who say you should never beat yourself up (most psychologist/psychiatrists and half the public) seem to be sociopathic, or at least to endorse sociopathy.

Question: Is this a fallacy? If so, which one?

I see this attack on Tumblr quite often as an effort to invalidate the initial argument.

Say I put up an analogy that says "A person smelling flowers is as happy as a dog smelling garbage".

Obviously my point is to compare the situations presented. A human likes the smell of flowers, and a dog likes the smell of garbage. They are both happy.

Now here comes Tumblrina screaming "YOU'RE SAYING FLOWERS ARE GARBAGE HOW DARE YOU". I'm pretty sure this is a fallacy, because what they're turning the original argument into something it's not, but I'm not sure which one. If it's not, it should be.

Question: Selflessness or Ignorance?
