If your grandfather had tribal citizenship, then the BIA (bureau of indian affairs) would have issued your parent, and you, a CDIB (certificate of degree of indian blood) when you were born. They didn't, which means he wasn't.

But sure. You know your grandfathers name and where he was born, right? Just check the census records. If he was native, he will be listed as such on the census records. The government keeps VERY accurate records of who Indians are. (because we couldn't vote or have many rights until fairly recently) If you don't know how to locate the records, just post his name, year of birth, (if you know it) and the place he was born. You'll have an answer within an hour.

btw...tribes have citizens, not members. We are nations, not clubs.

Question: Meaning for the Name Lambert?

Posted: 03 Nov 2015 04:19 PM PST

I'm no expert either, but I know where to find one.

Lambert Name Meaning

English, French, Dutch, and German: from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements land 'land', 'territory' + berht 'bright', 'famous'. In England, the native Old English form Landbeorht was replaced by Lambert, the Continental form of the name that was taken to England by the Normans from France. The name gained wider currency in Britain in the Middle Ages with the immigration of weavers from Flanders, among whom St. Lambert or Lamprecht, bishop of Maastricht in around 700, was a popular cult figure. In Italy the name was popularized in the Middle Ages as a result of the fame of Lambert I and II, Dukes of Spoleto and Holy Roman Emperors.

"from a Germanic personal name" means that at some point in the middle ages Ralph, son of Lambert, began calling himself "Ralph Lambert", and his son, Robert, called himself "Robert Lambert" instead of "Robert, son of Ralph".

Question: Is this surname Jewish? And what does it mean ? pls answer..?

It's Arabic.

Genealogy is a slow category. Had you asked "Should I have sex with my uncle? I'm 14 and he says he really loves me?" in Family & Relations, you would have gotten 250+ replies in 12 minutes. Over here, in a category that deals in facts, mostly, you won't get an answer in minutes, but, as we regulars wake up and get our first cup of coffee, you will eventually get an answer. If you ask another question in this category, give it 4 - 6 hours before you ask again.

I copy and paste this every month or two when people ask if a European surname is Jewish:

With three exceptions - "Levi", "Cantor" and "Cohen", all with many spelling variations - there are no "Jewish" surnames.

With some exceptions, there are no "Christian" surnames, either. One exception is "Christian" itself; you may remember Fletcher Christian from the Mutiny of the Bounty. Others are "Cruz" and "Saint ----".

Every other European surname could be Jewish, Christian - or Druid, for that matter.
