It's a common trope in fiction, a prostitute who's more interested in the well-being of others than herself, essentially a really good, selfless person.

The trade does not tend to draw women (and men) like that, of course. I understand that many prostitutes are damaged from and/or in abusive situations, high vulnerable and preyed upon, selling the only thing of value they have, often to support drug or alcohol addictions which ease their pain for a few hours.
