| Posted: 09 Nov 2015 03:41 PM PST Your price range is fine if you go to a brick-and-mortar violin shop, and if you go to a brick-and-mortar violin shop, it doesn't make any difference what brand of violin you get. Decent student violins are handmade, and they therefore vary from one to the next. There are also different ways an individual violin can be setup. Then, you have the fact that many shops have their own label that is only known locally, so no one here is going to know what is actually available in your area unless they live there or have done some research on your local market. Generally, the best source of information on your local market is going to be someone who has a stake in it but doesn't sell violins. In other words, you need to talk to a local teacher or performer rather than asking for advise online. Therefore, I always tell beginners to find their teacher before they look for a violin, not the other way around. You are going to need a teacher to learn anyway. Most people who try to learn on their own don't get anywhere, in which case whatever they spent on their violin is a waste. One more thing. You should seriously consider renting rather than purchasing. It means a lower investment up front and often insurance and credit toward the purchase of the instrument.
