| Question: How soon should I buy Nutcracker tickets? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 09:12 PM PDT How soon should I buy Nutcracker tickets? I'm planning on going to see the Nutcracker this December at the Houston Ballet. How soon should I buy tickets? I don't want to wait too long and they be sold out. |
| Question: Is this a good guitar package? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 09:03 PM PDT I can't really say a package like that is bad, but I wouldn't get it if I were you. For the price to quality ratio it's actually a fair enough deal, the guitar is playable and those little 10W Frontman amps sound pretty nice for what they are. But since you must only want to be spending $200, right? I suggest you look into finding a used Squier Vibe like this one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-Used-... and then you can find a little amp like this one:https://reverb.com/item/175530-fender-fr... used aswell. I know that's $40 over the budget but both these, guitar and the amp, are significantly better and would be worth it. Anyway search around and you might find better deals. |
| Question: Why can't I go on en pointe? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 08:32 PM PDT Why can't I go on en pointe? ok so I'm 15 and I want to go on pointe. I've been dancing since I was 5 and I am going onto my 9th year of ballet. (I've done jazz tap lyrical and a little modern as well). Anyway now I only do ballet, and many of the girls who are 13 and 14 are on pointe. This upsets me because I have been there longer than they have, and I'm still stuck on square 1. I know I'm doing fine since my studio even gave me a certificate last year for completing grade (I think) 5 of ballet. Now (I think) I'm in grade 6--- and I want pointe shoes. Also some girls did a summer program, and only SOME of them got on pointe. I have a new teacher, and I want to discuss this with her. What should I do exactly? Should I ask the director of our dance school or something else? |
| Question: Cello or Guitar Lessons? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 08:27 PM PDT
So I currently have about 6 years of viola lessons and I'm wondering how hard it would switch to cello because I've always enjoyed the cello sounds and have begun disfavoring the viola. I as well have a guitar but have absolutely no experience. Main question is what do you think would be better in the short run and long run? How long would it take to convert to a cello and actually be around a high school orchestra level compared to guitar? Thanks in advance! |
| Question: Switching from oboe to bassoon? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 08:13 PM PDT switching from oboe to bassoon? my sister is getting together a woodwind quintet for a solo and ensemble contest my school attends every year, and she needs a bassoon. since my sister and i are the only double reed players at our school, and she's already playing the oboe part, i volunteered to try and pick up bassoon. what major differences should i be looking for? like, things that as an oboist will be difficult to transition to bassoon with. |
| Question: What should I use to clean my guitar neck? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 08:04 PM PDT I like Martin guitar polish, but staying pretty tidy regarding the strings, as they need to be wiped off all the way around, not just on the "top". "Q-Tips" cotton swaps are useful, on each fret side, and all the hardware detail. the bridge and pickup areas tend to get particularly grungy. 'Kick it up a notch, loosen the strings a bit, and clean them past both the nut and bridge, then retune. Whatever, do not just squirt something over the face of the guitar, then try to wipe off the excess. When restringing, then I'll go gonzo. Checking all hardware for looseness and state of repair, Windex and a soft clean rag, lots of Q-tips, maybe a little rubbing alcohol on one to carefully swap the phone jack (cable jack) contacts, and then the polish. For some (electric guitar) finishes, that might be car polish wax on the body paint, but not the fretboard. |
