The fall of Rome was mainly economic. Though it was not appreciated at the time, Rome depended on a continuous stream of slaves and booty from newly-conquered territories. When fixed frontiers were decided on, this supply dried up and Rome was doomed. Of course, she was a long time a-dying.

Question: How much did the US spent on the military/wars in 2013?

Posted: 15 Oct 2014 06:21 AM PDT

In Canada, we spent 6k per person on health care in 2013. Population of about 35 mil, so 211 billion on health care in 2013. The US population is roughly 10 times larger.

Does the US spend enough on the military per year to cover the cost of spending an average of 6k per person on health care? Could America, for example, reduce it's military spending by 50% to cover the equivalent of what Canada would per person in health care?

The numbers probably don't work out to be so simple in reality, but, indulge me.
