| Posted: 29 Sep 2016 11:07 AM PDT You are probably not going to like what I am going to say but it is what I tell my students so I'll say it. Dance is a 'Performing Art', however, we dance because we LOVE to dance not because we love to perform and the performing is a byproduct of that love of dancing. However it is my opinion that to perform you have to be good enough to be interesting to watch and not everyone achieves that. I have students who are technically nice to watch but with a wooden performance or others who can perform but whose technique isn't strong enough to go into small groups and for school shows they would be used in larger groups with stronger dancers and indeed that is what I would have tried to do with your group. I'm afraid I don't feel they are strong enough for a group of their own. |

| Question: Painfull toe cracking? Posted: 28 Sep 2016 07:02 PM PDT There are so many possibilities here that it's difficult to know where to begin. Are both of your feet equal in size and shape? If they are not, and particularly if your left big toe is longer than the right, you will have to be fitted for each foot separately when you buy pointe shoes . This is not unusual and since pointe shoes are not "footed" you will have two pairs and be able to alternate them from one class to the next, allowing them time to dry well. There are other possibilities. Perhaps the shoes you have are not the best size or box shape for your feet. You also may not have broken them in by hand (flexed the arch at the right place for your feet) before wearing, which makes it difficult to pull up out of your shoes. You also may not have been taught doming and articulating your feet at the barre to develop the necessary foot strength to avoid making pointework painful. I think you need to talk to your teacher about this. Hopefully she is knowledgeable enough to help you. |
