| Question: Which marching band instrument should I learn to play? Posted: 18 Sep 2016 06:55 PM PDT So I was in marching band in high school all 4 years. For 3 years, I played marimba/xylophone in the pit and was drum major my senior year. My junior year however, I taught myself to play the clarinet so I could play in the stands and march in parades with an actual instrument. I'm in college now and really want to join marching band, but I need to learn a new instrument. They don't have a pit in this band and you have to try out to be on drum line. Well, I really don't want to be on drum line if there's no pit, honestly. I can rent an instrument from the music department to learn on. So what should I choose? I only read treble clef, and I don't want to march the clarinet (I hate that thing). I was thinking maybe mellophone or maybe saxophone. Which is easier? Thanks! |
